YORK COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — The month of October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and people across York County came together to show support. There was a show of support earlier today at Smalls Field in York County, where people came together while wearing the color purple in support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The supporters then rallied together to form the shape of a giant purple ribbon. This year’s purple ribbon event was organized by York’s YMCA.

(WHTM) — In the 1950s Harrisburg Mayor Wanda Williams was growing up in public housing in the Capitol City. “Well, I had a father who was real strict, no nonsense father, lovely mother,” Williams said. “It’s the way we were raised.” Raised well, but racism was a burden. She says, virtually no one of color lived north of Maclay. Yet, “It was well-kept homes, people had pride in where they lived,” Williams said.

BERKS COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — So much has happened over the past 100 years; imagine the Great Depression dominating your childhood, World War Two dominating your twenties and you’re still marking milestones. “Fun loving? Different experiences like going up for that helicopter ride, that was great,” Birdsboro resident Dottie Trate said after her first helicopter ride on her 102nd birthday and when abc27 came to meet her.

(WHTM)– Animal shelters almost always struggle with the volume of dogs they must care for, but shelters say the problem is especially bad now and experts believe inflation is the biggest reason. “Oh no no no. It’s, you know, Jaspar is like my kid,” Stephanie Campbell of Lititz said. Her and her daughter Liv have adopted two dogs, Jasper and Sugar, from the Lancaster SPCA. “There were definitely challenging days when I’m like wow y’know,” Stephanie said.

NEW OXFORD. Pa. (WHTM) — When Patty Musselman learned she was selected as an abc27 Remarkable Woman, she was shocked. “I was shocked, I was like, ‘Doug, what did you do?” she said. Doug Wherley is Mussselman’s boss at New Oxford High School. He’s the Conewago Valley School District athletic director and he nominated Patty, his administrative assistant, to be honored. “I was very excited for her,” he said.
