(WHTM) — We meet a remarkable Dauphin County woman who made it her life’s mission to help others. “I love what I do, if I can help other people that makes my heart feel good,” said Karen Carns, a regular volunteer of almost 17 years for the Hospice of Central Pennsylvania. Whether reading or singing, or comforting grieving families, she’s there to improve quality of life. “Different patients want different things,” said Carns. “I once had a patient who loved to sing.

YORK COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — The month of October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and people across York County came together to show support. There was a show of support earlier today at Smalls Field in York County, where people came together while wearing the color purple in support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The supporters then rallied together to form the shape of a giant purple ribbon. This year’s purple ribbon event was organized by York’s YMCA.

(WHTM)– Animal shelters almost always struggle with the volume of dogs they must care for, but shelters say the problem is especially bad now and experts believe inflation is the biggest reason. “Oh no no no. It’s, you know, Jaspar is like my kid,” Stephanie Campbell of Lititz said. Her and her daughter Liv have adopted two dogs, Jasper and Sugar, from the Lancaster SPCA. “There were definitely challenging days when I’m like wow y’know,” Stephanie said.
