    (WHTM) — Thousands of Pennsylvania residents remain affected by power outages caused by severe weather overnight. As of 8:30 p.m., nearly 4,000 PPL customers and 510 FirstEnergy-affiliate customers are without power. In PPL’s territory, the majority of the outages are in Dauphin, Cumberland, and Perry counties with 1,463, 1,010, and 984 outages respectively. Outages in Dauphin are primarily in suburban Harrisburg and in the Halifax area.

    (WHTM) — A new law making it illegal to use a handheld device while driving goes into effect in Pennsylvania next week. Paul Miller’s Law, which goes into effect on June 5, 2025, prohibits the use of handheld devices while driving or stopped at a stoplight. Pennsylvanians who violate this law will be fined $50. The new law is a bittersweet triumph for a Lackawanna County mother.

    (WHTM) — School boards, city councils, and township supervisor seats were decided in Tuesday’s primary election across the Commonwealth, but there were also interesting results in the state’s two biggest cities, and they almost sent conflicting messages. It almost never happens, but an incumbent Pittsburgh Mayor has now been defeated twice by a Democratic challenger. This time, Mayor Ed Gainey was knocked out by Corey O’Connor in the primary.
