Jeepney drivers are growing increasingly concerned about their shrinking take-home pay due to the relentless rise in oil prices. Last Tuesday, several oil companies raised the prices of diesel, kerosene and gasoline by P2.70, P2.50 and P1.65 per liter, respectively. This marked the third consecutive price hike since the start of 2025.

Families in Navotas City received 5 kilograms of rice assistance from the local government as part of the city’s founding anniversary celebration. The rice distribution began Friday and will continue through 28 January. According to the Navotas City Public Information Office, at least 7,050 registered families from the Bangkulasi, Bagumbayan South, Bagumbayan North, Navotas East and Navotas West barangays have received the rice assistance.

Several prices of vegetables have started to decrease after they ballooned last week. In Malabon City Public Market, vegetable vendors said that they observed a decreasing trend in the prices of different vegetables, however, some prices will likely remain the same, especially the ones from the uplands of Northern Luzon. The prices of tomatoes range from around P120 to P150 per kilogram, already lower than P280 per kilogram during the start of 2025.

A buy-bust operation in North Caloocan on Wednesday, 15 January, led to the arrest of a ready-to-wear (RTW) business owner and his two nephews. The local government of Valenzuela City revealed on Wednesday that it has destroyed 130 inaccurate weighing scales during a crackdown operation at the Karuhatan Market.
