Categories: December 3, 2024 Head Saluki football coach Nick Hill will never be a maligned face in southern Illinois. Much like his former counterpart, Bryan Mullins, Hill is a product of SIU and will always be remembered for what he did during his playing days. But Hill may soon join Mullins as a former player who couldn’t live up to the same glory as a coach. Hill has been SIU’s coach since 2016, when he was hired as a 31-year-old, first-time head coach.

Categories: August 22, 2024 Three proposals received approval by the SIU Board of Trustees regarding compensation for university officials at the July 11th meeting. The board members voted unanimously to increase the salary of SIUC Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management Wendell Williams, while SIUC Chancellor Austin Lane and SIU System President Daniel Mahony received bonuses.

Categories: August 17, 2024 With just little time until the first MVFC football games kick off, the Missouri Valley Football Conference has released its preseason poll and teams. SIU piled up 293 poll points and was picked to finish a distant fourth, behind only South Dakota State (482), North Dakota State (437) and South Dakota (371). SIU was closely followed by North Dakota and Illinois State, who were both within 30 points of fourth place.

August 14, 2024 A Carbondale man has been charged in the death of 18-year-old SIU student Keeshanna Jackson after a shooting that took place in August of 2021 on West Cherry Street in Carbondale, Illinois. It was announced that 22-year-old Keavonte Nesby has been charged with first degree murder as well as other offenses; two counts of first degree murder, two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm and one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

As the sun rose over Alto Pass on Easter morning, it cast a brilliant orange glow onto the 111-foot cross that sits atop Bald Knob Mountain, the highest point for miles. Those gathered on the hilltop were moved to tears by worship music that echoed throughout the surrounding valley, and the touching words of a southern Illinois cancer survivor. The gates opened at 5 a.m. that morning, and guests began walking up to the clearing at the top of the hill.

April 3, 2024 Student fashion designers are putting the final touches on a vast array of garments to be featured in the Fashion Studies’ Student Showcase Fashion Show April 25 at 7 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. This year’s lines include eclipse-related garments, along with more typical clothes. The show doesn’t usually have a theme, but organizers wanted to tie it in with the biggest event of the year: the total solar eclipse.
