So are we all just going to ignore the parking issue at USF? Last fall, USF’s Parking and Transportation Services (PATS) sold 20,213 parking passes. There are 20,761 parking spots on campus, said PATS director Scott Fox. With record numbers of enrollment this new school year, something needs to be done about the parking situation. I believe I have just the fix: A free app where students can track available parking spots on campus.

“I have no idea what I want to do.” Entering your adviser’s office, going into a frenzy and finally just declaring undecided as your major is nothing to be ashamed of. You don’t have to have it all together and feel pressured to settle with a major as soon as you get to USF. Not knowing what to do career-wise after graduation is okay.

It’s the first year of college and day one of classes. You sit down in between a few students. Other than the exchange of a few awkward glances, no words are said. Fast forward to finals week and you barely know anyone’s name – the ones you do know are from hearing their names during attendance. We as college students, whether introverts or extroverts, need to move past the issue of not wanting to meet people in our classes.

“Hey Bulls fans…are you feelin’ HOT?!”Once this phrase is exclaimed over the Raymond James Stadium loudspeaker, the excitement begins. The drumline taps off after AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” and the USF Herd of Thunder (HOT) Marching Band starts sprinting to their spots. Related: ‘It’s a family away from home’: USF’s number one fan, the Herd of ThunderBeing a part of HOT for two years has been one of the biggest blessings in my life so far.

After going to the Alabama USF game last year and seeing how many crimson shirts cursed the stadium, I was envious of Alabama fans’ ability to seemingly drop everything and follow their beloved team to another state. It seemed a shame that we couldn’t follow our team along their season journey for their own away games. Well guess what? We can and we should. Even if we cannot attend these matches in person, we can still support our football players by watching from afar as a community.

Honestly, I’d rather eat less chicken. It’s no secret that USF is home to a variety of dine-in spots. But that variety is starting to be watered down by fast food repeats. Pollo Tropical was a great restaurant so closing it down to replace it with yet another Chick-fil-A is a disappointment to say the least. With that being said, here are three new ideas that I believe would make better use of that space.

Trying to find an available spot on campus will have you experiencing all stages of grief, in a span of 30 minutes or more. The longest I’ve ever spent scavenging for a parking spot was easily an hour on the first day of the fall semester. To be fair I did arrive at noon, which is during peak busy hours on campus. After 10 minutes of looking, I knew I was in for the search of my life. After 40 minutes of driving around searching for a spot, I felt the gray hairs sprouting.

No, I am not “ready for it.”This fall, USF will offer a Cultural Studies and Popular Arts course that will look at the themes and literary influences in Taylor Swift’s lyrics. “For the first time, the class will be looking at music, rather than film and literature,” said Associate Professor of English Emily Jones, one of three professors teaching the class. Now that the door is open for LIT 3301 to discuss music, there are many musicians who I think would be a great subject for study.
