I remember the day I found my dog, BeeBee, at a local animal shelter. Background noise of dogs barking filled my ears while I waited by the front desk. What hit me at that moment was not the barking itself, but the nature of the barking. It was like nothing I had heard before at a shelter. It was the sound of hope from barking dogs looking for their forever homes.

If I am going to pay upwards of $8 on a coffee, it better be the best $8 I’ve ever spent. Therefore I’ve taken the liberty to embark on a coffee crawl on campus and rate each place on prices, taste and ambiance. The scale will be one through five for each category, one being this is downright horrendous to five being, “give me 14 of them.”To keep the rating consistent when it comes to taste, I’ve decided to get the most basic menu item across each place, the iced caramel latte.

Last week on campus, I heard a lecture from Annie McDaniel, USF’s chapter leader for Saint Paul’s Outreach that made me change the way I see a couple things. Saint Paul’s Outreach (SPO) is a Catholic-based organization that sends missionaries to college campuses to help college students stay connected to their Catholic faith. SPO focuses on building relationships with college students and helping them navigate through their faith life.

Preparing for exams, a never-ending Canvas to-do list and the continuous notifications that something has been graded. This, in a nutshell, is the typical college student experience in November. It’s easy to feel alone as you check your grades and overhear your classmates’ successes. But students at USF are here to tell you this is not the case. They are even here to offer student advice to navigate the stress of the end of the semester.

Last Tuesday, comedian Trevor Wallace graced the Yuengling Center stage for the annual Roundup Comedy Show. Other notable comedians to visit our campus include last year’s performer Joe Gatto from Impractical Jokers, Nick Cannon in 2015 and Pete Davidson in 2017. This got me thinking. What other comedians should host our next comedy show?

Imagine strolling through old streets, ordering coffee in a different language and making international friends. USF students should study abroad through USF World’s Education Abroad. Study abroad programs help students grow, break boundaries, crush stereotypes, all while experiencing a trip they’ll never forget.

To say USF faculty and staff deserve livable wages shouldn’t be a “hot take.”In October, in-unit faculty, or those who are part of the union, saw a 3% raise on their paychecks, even though the United Faculty of Florida (UFF) initially called for a 7-9% minimum pay increase for employees. Karin Braunsberger, UFF’s chief negotiator, said the 3% that showed up in Friday’s paycheck was actually something UFF bargained for during the last contract with USF.
