AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Friday was a closed practice at the Augusta National Golf Club for all players who qualified for the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. All 71 amateur women’s golfers had a chance to play on Friday afternoon. A day so many dream about is now a reality. For 39 of them, they played the course without pressure. For the rest of the 32, they were playing to get a leg up on the leaderboard when Saturday’s final round comes calling.

However, it’s her first spotting the colors she’s worked toward for the last four years. “I did ROTC all throughout college, started ROTC my freshman year, and then commissioned as a second lieutenant last June,” said Heck.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Aquinas football team has accumulated a ton of wins over the years, and most of them are under the last name Leonard. Head Coach James Leonard took over the Irish program at 26 years old. He’s now four wins away from magic number 100 this season. “I mean, doesn’t have a whole lot to do with me. You know, I think this is the one sport you can’t coach by yourself. You can coach every other sport in the world with no assistance, but you can’t do this sport by yourself.

But this year, they’re throwing the past out the window and letting the fresh air do its job. This is a whole new team. “It’s a completely new team. To be 100% honest, we lost a lot of seniors last year, so this year we’re just focusing on working together and playing really smart and scrappy,” said senior, Daniella Richards.

AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - It’s not the news any team wants after a hopeful season for fans last year. Earl Chaptman will no longer serve as head football coach for Midland Valley. Instead, assistant coach Brent Dorn will step in as interim this season. This comes after Chaptman was arrested and charged with domestic violence. Those charges have been dropped. In response, the Aiken County Public School District put Chaptman on leave.
