Two young boys, dressed in Abercrombie sweaters and steeped in a sepia filter, sit in front of a piano and introduce their song about standing up to bullies. They warble about sticks and stones breaking their bones but words won’t break them down. “Stand Up,” as the song is called, is just one of many in their adolescent discography. “There's another song called ‘Redemption’ about redeeming your love for someone. And we're like 12, so it's pretty funny,” said Boca Raton native Justin Koolik.

No sane driver in South Florida would willingly sit for hours in traffic — but come Dec. 1, there is one exception. Every year, people from all parts of Miami-Dade County will make the trek to Enchanted Place in North Miami to see the neighborhood come alive with holiday lights. A long line of cars, many blasting holiday music, will crawl down the street, appropriately named after the nearby Enchanted Forest Elaine Gordon Park.

Anyone hoping for a wild spring break in South Florida this year might have to look elsewhere. Miami Beach has not been shy about its intention to curb spring break crowds, introducing heavy measures in the last few weeks to help them — as its recent campaign says — “break up” with the holiday. "Miami Beach is a destination, and we open our doors to the world," City Commissioner Alex Fernandez told WLRN.

If there’s a band that defies labels, it’s Snarky Puppy. Michael League founded the group almost 20 years ago when he couldn’t get into any of the music programs at his Texas college. Instead, he created a band that was rooted in jazz, but opened itself to all kinds of musicians — folks who were willing to break the mold. "I just tried to find people who I thought would be up for that — basically trying to find people who weren't jazz snobs," he said on WLRN's Sundial.

The streets of Miami’s ritziest neighborhoods flood — but Liberty City is bone dry. The neighborhood sits just 12 feet above sea level. But that slightly higher ground is gold these days in South Florida, with rising seas caused by climate change. That makes Liberty City irresistible to developers — and also to filmmakers who wanted to document what happens when gentrification comes for one of Miami’s historically Black neighborhoods.
