LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC/Gray News) - A 16-year-old girl in Louisiana was killed at a high school graduation party, according to reports. Lake Charles Police said the shooting happened on Tuesday after midnight. Police said dozens of people between 16 and 22 were at the home, which had been rented for the gathering. The victim was identified as 16-year-old McKenzie Rideau.

(KPLC) - Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill is asking the court to dismiss a lawsuit over the state’s controversial new law requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in every classroom of schools receiving state funding. A federal judge approved an agreement that state officials may not begin implementing the required displays until at least November as a lawsuit plays out.

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Three Louisiana men were sentenced to federal prison for a string of armed robberies that ended when they were caught in Calcasieu Parish. Prosecutors say Jaylon Deshon Brumfield, 25, of Lake Charles, Evan Aaron Ard, 22, and Taurus Terrell Finley, 22, both of Hammond, conspired to rob multiple businesses and people in 2022. The crime spree began in Kentwood and traveled through McComb, Mississippi, and Beaumont before ending in Vinton.

LEESVILLE, La. (KPLC) - A driver has been arrested following an investigation into a crash that injured a man riding a scooter on U.S. 171 in Leesville. Officers believe Conner Saucier, 19, was driving about 63 mph in a 35-mph zone when he hit Roderick Thomas Jr., 21, on May 22, according to the Leesville Police Department. Both men were headed north in the inside lane of 171 near Fertitta Boulevard. Thomas was brought to a medical facility to be treated for his injuries, police said.
