CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Longtime golfer, Boyd Cobb has a goal very few dream of. In honor of his 90th birthday, he’s aspiring to golf 90 holes. You’ll typically find Boyd golfing throughout the week at the Chattanooga Golf & Country Club. Coming up on 90 years young, he has an inspiring story for us all to never give up and believe in yourself. Besides continuing to enjoy his favorite hobby, he does it all himself– walking, toting, etc.

SODDY DAISY, Tenn. (WDEF) — Soddy Daisy Middle School cancelled classes Wednesday due to downed power lines across the road at the entrance to the school. No cars or buses could get through. The building lost power and phones lines are out. Students were reported safe on buses. They were taken to Soddy Daisy High School where parents could pick them up. Buses ran regularly scheduled routes to elementary school before picking students up at the high school.

WALDEN, Tenn. (WDEF) — Drivers planning to take the W Road will have to look for another route Monday. The road closed at 9 a.m. and will be shut down until 4 p.m. for routine maintenance. Plan on using Roberts Mill Road or Signal Mountain Boulevard and Taft Highway to leave or get to Signal during the day. Crews are working on cleaning debris and general upkeep.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Firefighters responded to a fire at the Westside Community Center Thursday afternoon at 3:41 p.m.The call came in from the Sheila Jennings Recreational Center on 1201 Poplar Street on an automatic fire alarm. When they got to the scene, firefighters noticed smoke coming from the building. Personnel met with the property manager who said there was a roll of toilet paper on fire in the girls bathroom. He said he used an extinguished and thought it was out.
