0 The results of Exeter’s Student Guild Elections were announced on the 2nd of February after many weeks of candidates campaigning as to why they should be the next students to fill the roles. At the top of the tree, Alex Martin becomes our new Guild President, a role in which he will lead the Guild along with the other full time officers and be representative for students.

0 Following the intense period of nominations, online and physical campaigning and voting, Exeposé can now announce the new Guild Officers. Over 4000 students cast their vote in the election, which translated into a 13 per cent turnout, up one per cent from last year. Receiving 1438 votes after three rounds of voting quotas, Alex Martin succeeds Emma de Saram as the Guild President for 2024/25.

0 Education Secretary, Gillian Keegan, declared that new guidance would be issued “shortly” to ban mobile phone usage during the entire school day. Announced at the Conservative Party conference, the ban aims to not only prevent use of phones during lessons, but also at break and lunchtimes. The guidance was justified on the grounds of raising standards, through increasing focus by reducing the distractions that phones can create.

0 When Russia has cancelled the deal regarding transport of products such as wheat through the Black Sea, the question of export from Ukraine has become a burning issue. As much as 20 million tonnes of grain are waiting in the Ukrainian ports and around 60,000 tonnes of it were destroyed in Russian air strikes. The temporary ban on importing Ukrainian grain, that the European Commision introduced in May, has ended on the 15th of September.
