A Costco may be on the horizon for New Braunfels residents. What we knowIn an email to Community Impact, Costco's Regional Marketing Manager said they would be opening a location in New Braunfels at some point in the future, but do not yet have an opening timeframe. The company is looking to build a store at the southeast corner of the Mayfair development—more specifically at the corner of Kohlenberg Road and I-35.

La Bonita Bar & Club opened at 14750 Camino Real, Kyle on Dec. 21. General Manager Alejandra Ugarte said La Bonita has been serving the South Austin and Kyle area for eight years, and that they are "thrilled" to bring their new concept bar to the outskirts of Kyle. "We’re confident it’ll be a great spot for locals to enjoy drinks, catch some sports and have a good time," Ugarte said in an email to Community Impact.

City of Buda to expand Seniors Taking A Ride Program to extraterritorial jurisdiction

Transportation for seniors is expanding in Buda. Buda City Council adopted a resolution Jan. 7 that will expand the city’s transportation program, Seniors Taking A Ride, also known as STAR. Sea Barra is bringing the authentic flavors of Baja Sinaloa to the heart of San Marcos. The restaurant concept—owned by Gilbert and Rosario Amillano—will serve from-scratch tacos, seafood, ceviche and more. The food truck opened at 420 University Drive, San Marcos on Nov. 16. Gilbert Amillano said the brick-and-mortar location will open in the spring of 2025. Amillano said their brick-and-mortar location will also have a sushi bar.
TCR Bee Supply to offer beekeeping supplies in New Braunfels

TCR Bee Supply will be opening a storefront in February at 522 Soechting Road in New Braunfels. The business is owned by long time New Braunfels residents John and Brenda Muth, who began selling bee equipment in July at local beekeeping club meetings and online. TCR Bee Supply will sell a variety of beekeeping supplies for local "beeks," or beekeepers, John said in an email to Community Impact. The shop will sell frames, bee jackets, hive tops, starter hives and more.
The Old Mill celebrates 100-years of history in San Marcos

The Old Mill, a historic commercial property in San Marcos, celebrated its 100-year anniversary with a ribbon cutting on Dec. 6. The property—owned by Henry and Marian Oles—is one of the oldest and most historic commercial properties in the area. The couple purchased the building in 1988 to serve as the headquarters for their company, EPS Photographic, and to develop a lease space for other businesses, according to a news release.
