Ever since I joined FT Adviser back in 2019, a topic that has consistently come up as a major bugbear for advisers has been the letters of authority process. It was known to be a persistent source of industry frustration for a long time which needed to be addressed. So why is it in 2025 we are still yet to solve this issue? LOAs allows advisers to access specific information with a third-party provider, like a pension company or investment firm, on the client’s behalf.

We are in the depths of January where a lot of people are living by the ‘new year, new me’ mantra. Social media is flooded with people’s workout plans, resolutions to read more books or eat more healthily, and dry January tips and tricks. I am of the opinion that life is too short for such fads and I do not need it to be January to take care of myself – mind and body. However, I did decide that while a diet may not be the key to my happiness, January may be a good time to revisit my finances.
