Police have revealed the reason why a helicopter was seen hovering over the M6 in Lancashire today (Thursday, June 5). The search, led by Staffordshire Constabulary, saw armed cops and a police helicopter scouring the motorway around the Preston area this morning at around 8.45am and later in the afternoon at around 1.15pm. The helicopter was seen hovering above the ground near to Junction 31A and also around the Samlesbury area next to the M61 in the afternoon.

The new tenant of a former Co-op and Nisa store has been unveiled with signs going up at the shop in Darwen. The store in Blackburn Road closed suddenly last June after the company running the franchise, Darwen Stores, went into liquidation owing money to Scottish Power. In May 2024, in documents publishes by Companies House, liquidators confirmed that Darwen Stores had been wound up.

Bosses at Pendle Council have scrapped the local knowledge test element of a taxi driver's assessment. At a taxi licensing meeting last month, Pendle Council agreed to scrap the local knowledge section of the test, which applicants must complete before submitting an application for a hackney carriage or private hire driver's licence. The test costs £29.90.

A teenage boy died after placing a scarf round his bunkbed in what his family believe was an accident. Ewan Farrow was an "adventurous boy" who enjoyed making hammocks using his bunkbed and would often be found hanging upside down from the ladders. On the evening of January 10 this year his parents shouted up to 14-year-old Ewan in his room but got no response.

A man has sadly died after he was found with serious injuries at his home. Patrick Park, a well-known local in Darwen, was flown to the Royal Preston Hospital on Saturday May 31 after he was found with serious injuries in his flat above the pharmacy in Union Street. A huge emergency response was at the scene with at least five police vehicles, two ambulances and the air ambulance.
