The North-West Evening Mail, often referred to simply as the Evening Mail, is a daily local newspaper in the UK that has been serving readers since its early days as the North-Western Daily Mail from 1898 to 1940. It is published every evening and is headquartered in Barrow-in-Furness.

Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service responded to reports of a fire on Walney Road at around 1am today (Tuesday). Two crews from Barrow Fire Station attended the scene where they discovered five bins alight at the rear of the Salvation Army charity shop. A spokesperson for the fire service said: "Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service was called at 1am to a fire on Walney Road, Barrow-in-Furness. "Two crews from Barrow Fire Station attended and found five bins alight at the rear of a commercial building.

A number of cars were targeted with items including outdoor adventure clothing, sunglasses, and a quantity of cash reported stolen. An outbuilding was also broken into and a Husqvarna chainsaw taken. It happened during the early hours of Thursday, May 22 but police have just released details. A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: "A man with a black hoodie, wearing black shorts was seen leaving on a pedal cycle. He made off from the area with items on his person at around 5am.
