Bluewater shopping centre in Greenhithe amid reports of fire

Bluewater shopping centre has been evacuated. Emergency services were called to the site in Greenhithe this morning. Hundreds of shoppers were asked to leave the centre and sirens were played over the tannoy. One woman at the scene said: “An announcement was made telling everyone to leave and that there had been reports of a fire. “Everyone was running out. There were hundreds of people outside and two fire engines went past.

It was a film that was regularly on in the Nickalls household when I was a little girl. Doris Day is one of my mum’s favourite actors and I was brought up on musicals from that golden era, including Calamity Jane. My knowledge of White Christmas is almost word perfect to this day, I had dreams of being a Von Trapp child (minus the having to escape the Nazis) and the weird kidnapping in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers never phased me - I just liked the colour coordination and the songs.

A fire was believed to have been started deliberately in a former secondary school for the second time in a month. Six fire engines attended St John Fisher School in Ordnance Street, Chatham at 6.30pm. No injuries were reported but the fire was believed to have been started deliberately. Crews were stood down just an hour later. The school has been left derelict since both sites closed in February 2022 and pupils were moved to a ew complex at the bottom of City Way.

The A2 is closed in both directions following a crash. The road has been shut between the A227 for Gravesend and the M2 Junction 1 for Strood. National Highways predicts the road won’t reopen until around 10am. Police are at the scene and a diversion is in place. Those heading coastbound are advised to follow the 'Solid Circle' diversion symbol on road signsExit the A2 coastbound at the Marling Cross junction for Gravesend.

Tributes paid to talented musician and loving father Tony Totts from Rochester

Tributes have been paid to a popular husband, father and talented musician. Tony Totts passed away, surrounded by his family at home, on November 26. He was diagnosed with gastro-oesophageal junction cancer, a rare type that starts where the food pipe joins the stomach, last year. The 67-year-old was born in Shoreditch, London, but moved to Rochester in 1999. He married Maria in 1996 and together they had three children Fiona, Sophie and Dominic.
‘Monster’ child predator jailed for making indecent images of children

A man has been jailed after making indecent images of children. Neil Pavitt, of Allen Street, Maidstone, was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court last month. The 48-year-old “monster” faced charges of voyeurism and making indecent images of a child. He was sentenced on August 22 to two years and two months in prison. Pavitt was put on the sex offenders register for 10 years and given two sexual harm prevention orders and a forfeiture and destruction order relating to his laptop and phone.
