That’s why Saturday, April 26 is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. It’s the opportunity to safely dispose of your old prescription drugs at one of the 30 sites across the state. In 2024, nearly 6,500 pounds of medications were collected in Louisiana alone.

She started painting in high school but gave it up in her adult life to focus on her merchandising career. That’s until just a few years ago when she was reminded of how much the paintbrush has a hold on her. She’s hoping soon enough she can switch her job to fulltime artist. That could be for good reason.

She is the co-founder and CEO of the Youth Empowerment Project, better known around town as YEP. She’s one of WGNO’s finalists for New Orleans Most Remarkable Woman of 2025. “I was able to go to three or four parties a day – the most I ever did was 15.”Margarita is known for her lively spirit, but there’s much more to her than what meets the eye. Born in the Dominican Republic in 1946, Margarita immigrated to the states when she was 16.
