    Labor has retained its dominance in the west with yet another emphatic federal election result, picking up an extra seat from the depleted Liberal Party who failed to reverse their significant losses from 2022. And teal independent Kate Chaney is predicted to retain the blue-ribbon seat of Curtin from Liberal challenger Tom White, according to the ABC election computer. Labor has snatched the seat of Moore from the Liberals.

    Jack Brearley, one of four people accused of murdering Perth teenager Cassius Turvey, has denied using an axe to cut the handles off shopping trolleys on the day the boy was attacked. It's alleged a pole ripped from a supermarket trolley was used to inflict the fatal blow. Mr Brearley blames one of his co-accused, Brodie Palmer, for the fatal assault, although he admits punching Cassius Turvey in self-defence after claiming the schoolboy stabbed him.

Lisa Mott had been out playing basketball on a Thursday night in the small town of Collie, about 200 kilometres south of Perth, and was heading home on foot when she parted ways with her friend. She hasn't been seen since. In a video interview with WA Police in 2023 recorded for their Cold Case podcast, Lisa's mother, now called Marion Flower, spoke of the devastating aftermath.
