Welcome to English Teacher Weekly—your source for what’s worthwhile from the worlds of literature, education, Christian thought, and the humanities. This week’s edition comes to you from the local coffee shop I escape to after school about once a week. It’s a little treat I like to give myself. I was served a hot cup of coffee from a beloved former student of mine who’s taking a gap year. A year as a barista isn’t a bad way to go, baking muffins, roasting coffee beans, chatting up the locals.

Welcome to English Teacher Weekly—your source for what’s worthwhile from the worlds of literature, education, Christian thought, and the humanities. The main service I provide here at ETW is careful curation. It’s anti-algorithm work. The tricky thing about those algorithm-driven content machines is that the consumer has the illusion of control and discovery when in fact the algorithm has its own purposes and priorities. Far better to operate on a human scale, with its own eccentricities and whims.

Welcome to English Teacher Weekly—your source for what’s worthwhile from the worlds of literature, education, Christian thought, and the humanities. This edition marks the second anniversary of ETW, and I’d like to say thank you for the support. I plan to continue this project into 2025 by doubling down on my original vision—to be a great place for people to connect to the literary and educational worlds that I love. Two goals for the new year: Make it weirder. Make it shorter.
