At least three protesters were removed from the Greensboro Coliseum as Donald Trump made his first public appearance in North Carolina in three months and his first since becoming the Republicans' presumptive presidential nominee. Trump took the stage just before 7 p.m. Tuesday, the same day as his 70th birthday. The first protester was removed from the venue about 30 minutes into Trump's speech. As the first two people were removed, Trump urged that nobody hurt them as they were escorted out.

The top spy on the National Security Agency and a retired congressman who headed the House Intelligence Committee were in Raleigh on Monday to discuss cyber threats in an increasingly wired world. Admiral Michael Rogers, the NSA director, and former Michigan Congressman Mike Rogers were part of a panel discussion at North Carolina State University's Emerging Issues Forum, talking about the trade-offs between privacy and the security of personal data and business networks.

The U.S. Senate race is at the top of North Carolina's ballots this fall, and Republican nominee Thom Tillis is helping lead the GOP's charge to get out the vote. The state Republican Party held a kickoff event Saturday at state GOP headquarters in Raleigh for its grassroots efforts to elect Republicans up and down the party's candidate slate. Tillis and other party notables spoke at the event. Tillis is seeking to unseat Democratic incumbent Kay Hagan.

Clementa Pickney discussed Tuesday night issues forgiveness, justice, and race brought to the forefront by the hate crime at Mother Emanuel Church that took her husband’s life last year. Pinckney was one of nine people shot and killed at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina, last June during a Bible study. His widow, Jennifer, discussed race and religion in light of the hate crime that took her husband’s life.

Arson is now suspected in a rash of wildfires across western North Carolina, and state transportation officials on Friday said the wildfire near Lake Lure has forced the immediate closing of U.S. Highway 64/74A and N.C. Highway 9 in Rutherford CountyAt least 20 wildfires are burning in the Nantahala National Forest, along the southern Appalachian Mountains. Dozens of families have been forced out of their homes.
