There are 175 National Guard soldiers who have been activated in case they're needed for storm response.

New rules to prevent heavy dressers from tipping over onto children have been in place for a year. So, how effective have they been? The safety requirements in the STURDY Act include changes safety advocates have wanted for years. At least 482 children have died in furniture tip-over accidents between 2000 and 2021. Consumer Reports says the new rules in the STURDY Act are working to prevent those accidents. However, major retailers are still selling older, potentially dangerous pieces of furniture.

Keith and Angela Myers own both properties. Ultimately, it will be up to a civil court to figure out who has the right to this space, Keith Myers or the developer who gave the space to residents more than 30 years ago. Cary resident Ian Pearthree took the video on Saturday of Keith Myers tearing up pavement of the trail.

16 child care centers have closed in the last two months in North CarolinaMore than 100 child care centers have closed in the past year across North Carolina. In the last two months, North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services [NCDHHS] data shows there are 16 child care centers that have closed in the state. Eshawney Gaston is a North Carolina resident and am other of two children. Finding child care has been difficult for Gaston. “Garbage,” she said.

On WRAL at 6: Cancer-causing chemicals on campus. WRAL Investigates obtained years of records detailing dangerous chemicals across NC State. WRAL has been investigating PCBs discovered inside Poe Hall for nearly a year and has now uncovered nearly two dozen other campus buildings contaminated with the same chemical. At least 22 buildings on NC State's campus have tested positive for PCBs in the last 7 years.
