UK energy regulator Ofgem has asked the National Energy System Operator to create a new code modification proposal to address the "uncertainty" associated with Transmission Network Use of System (TNUoS) charges. In a letter to the network operator, previously known as National Grid ESO, Ofgem suggested a “temporary cap and floor intervention” should be designed and brought before the Connection and Use of System Code panel in October.

UK renewables generation increased by 19% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2024 to 32.8 terawatt-hours, according to government figures. The performance was attributed largely to favourable weather conditions, with higher average wind speeds of around eight knots compared to 6.9 knots a year earlier.

The developer will immediately distribute £15,000 of community benefit funding related to its 50MW Six Oaks solar and battery project in southern England, which has not yet been built.

ScottishPower Renewables has received planning consent for the 65MW Hollandmey hybrid renewables project in Scotland. The scheme will comprise ten turbines delivering 50MW of onshore wind capacity alongside a 15MW solar array and 15MW of battery energy storage capacity. It will be built 8km south-west of John O’Groats in the Highlands.

Island Green Power has been awarded planning permission for the around 600MW Cottam solar farm in England. UK Energy Secretary Ed Miliband signed off on a Development Consent Order for the project today (5 September), following an application submitted in January last year. A ground mounted solar array, along with associated infrastructure and a battery energy storage system, is now cleared for construction on land at the Nottinghamshire-Lincolnshire border.
