SODDY DAISY, TN (WDEF) – Headstones are supposed to be lasting reminders of those who came before us, but time, the elements and vandals can make them hard to read. Thankfully, kids at Sequoyah High School created lasting grave makers in their machine shop. Names and other vital information are engraved on aluminum blocks. The blocks are then welded onto a bracket with some rebar that is buried deep enough so they can’t be easily moved.

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF) – Biology is defined as the study of living organisms. It can be one of the more challenging subjects on a 9 grader’s schedule, but Warren Smith sprinkles in plenty of life lessons for his students a CCS. For teaching growing minds about growing things, we honored, Mr. Smith with tonight’s Golden Apple Award. Jake Palumbo is the High School Principal at CCS. He says, Mr. Smith is an excellent teacher. He’s been teaching here at CCS for the last seven years.

We traveled to Whitwell Middle School to learn how their accomplishment is more than just a status on this week’s ‘What’s Right With Our Schools’.
