PENN BOROUGH, Pa. — State police are searching for a man who they say hit an eight-year-old boy with his car while the boy was riding his e-bike. Troopers say the driver stopped, moved the bike out of the road, and continued on without checking on the boy. The boy was taken to Forbes Hospital and then to Children’s Hospital for several injuries and a concussion.

State police are searching for a man who they say hit an 8-year-old boy with his car while the boy was riding his e-bike. “We were scared,” said Theresa Whitefield, the boy’s grandmother. “When I got to the stop sign, I saw my grandson lying on the sidewalk. A gentleman was helping him, and they called 911 and got the cops and paramedics here for him.”The boy, Ben Smith, was taken to Forbes Hospital and then to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.

UNIONTOWN, Pa. — Saturday was a first for Corporal Zachary Vernail of the Uniontown Police Department, who has been an officer for eight years and a volunteer firefighter for a decade. He’s never responded to a fire where someone was still trapped. “Even as a firefighter, this was the first time,” Vernail said. Vernail was on patrol Saturday when the call came in that a house on Evans Street in Uniontown was on fire. He was the first on scene and immediately jumped into action.

There wasn’t a long line at the Uniontown DMV for its REAL ID day Monday, but there was a steady flow of people stopping by to get one. “I wanted it in case I want to travel, in case I want to fly, and so I decided I better just get it and have it,” said Michelle Keslar of Fayette County. It is optional in Pennsylvania to get a REAL ID, but without one, you won’t be able to take domestic flights or enter government offices or military bases unless you have a passport.

MT. PLEASANT TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Bob Ersick has lived on Mount Pleasant Road in Fayette County for 21 years and has seen traffic increase. “It’s increased a lot, probably over double in the time that we bought this,” Ersick told Channel 11′s Andrew Havranek. Now, he’s worried a PennDOT project is going to make it worse. “My biggest concerns are getting in and out of my driveway and taking the value away from my property,” he said.
