The Sounders visit LAFC at 7:30 PM on MLS Season Pass. The Seattle Sounders are two wins away from hosting MLS Cup, but they’ll likely need to win two road games in order to do that. Their path starts today with a game against LAFC, a team they’ve failed to beat in any of their last 10 meetings across all competitions that dates to 2021. There’s a good chance they’ll be a bit short-handed, as both Paul Rothrock and Nouhou were unable to fully train this week.

RENTON — As the summer transfer window drew to a close and it was becoming obvious that the Seattle Sounders weren’t going to be able to land one of their top targets, they were faced with a decision. One option was to settle for someone who they were less convinced was an upgrade over their current options, but would at least temporarily satiate a desire both inside the club and among fans to make a signing.

It took a penalty shootout and the better part of two hours of game time, but the Seattle Sounders took the advantage going into Game 2 of the best-of-3 series on Monday. The game finished 0-0 against the Houston Dynamo after regulation and extensive stoppage time, but the Sounders won the penalty shootout 5-4 with Alex Roldan converting the winning spot kick. Seattle were the more threatening side throughout, but never truly tested Steve Clarke during regulation.

The Seattle Sounders will face a Houston Dynamo team that should look very familiar to them. Like the Sounders, the Dynamo play sound defense almost as much through possession as actual defending. Also like the Sounders, the Dynamo aren’t the most effecient offense. Although the Sounders have historically gotten the better of Houston, especially at home, they shouldn’t be taken lightly. In the two meetings this year, the Sounders were 1-0-1.

Rejoice, for the best part of the MLS year is here! It’s playoff time, and the Sounders are synonymous with playoff runs. Despite the Portland Timbers and shaky officiating combining to nearly break Seattle’s run of good form, the Sounders are still unbeaten in seven straight games. But the Dynamo are in town to crash the party. Their brand of methodical possession soccer, not unlike the ball-dominant Sounders of yesteryear, is great for controlling matches but inefficient at producing goals.
