West Vigo snapped a 10-day, three-game losing streak in high school baseball Tuesday evening by putting itself in the place it always wants to be — with a share of the Western Indiana Conference lead — with a 10-4 win over visiting Cloverdale at Dick Ballinger Field. The Vikings never trailed and had just one nervous moment, but sophomore Peyton Powers put out Cloverdale's fire in the top of the fourth and West Vigo coasted from there. kAmr@=E@?

Terre Haute North, West Vigo, Marshall and Robinson got first-round victories Friday evening in the first round of the Braves Bash high school softball tournament at Miss Softball America. Northview, Paris, Bloomfield, Sullivan and host Terre Haute South weren’t as fortunate, the Braves doubly so. AdvertisementNormally a 16-team, four-pool affair, this year’s Bash had to alter its plans when a team had to cancel at the last minute.

Unbeaten Golden Arrows are at it again

“We really love softball here,” Lela Earley said this week when asked why her Sullivan High School team always seems to be good at the sport, and maybe the proof of that statement came after the Golden Arrows were deprived of it. Since the no-spring-sports seasons because of COVID-19 in 2020, the Arrows — who had been a pretty respectable team before that — have been 110-20, counting the wins in their first four games this season.

An early-season high school baseball clash between two undefeated teams proved to be anticlimactic Tuesday night as visiting Terre Haute North won 15-3 at Sullivan. Terre Haute North’s Todd Woelfle has been chosen to coach the Indiana Junior All-Stars, the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association announced Thursday. Two-out clutch hits by Jaycee Elkins and Grace Rodgers capped a six-run third inning for visiting West Vigo on Thursday in high school softball, and the Vikings defeated host Terre Haute North 8-4 in the Patriots' season opener.
