Despite concerns about how Indiana Gov. Mike Braun’s state budget could affect Vigo County’s in the near future, the Vigo County Council approved the spending measures placed before it at its Tuesday night meeting. It approved $68,500 for two new GPS units for the Vigo County Surveyor’s department. Bruce Allen sought the funding by saying that those his office had were more than 10 years old and incapable of being further updated.

It’s hard to say what was more impressive about Forest Park Elementary fifth-grade Corbin Clingerman’s victory Monday morning at the Forest Park 500 — how quickly and easily he lapped the competition, or the dazzling array of donuts he performed afterward to celebrate his victory. This was the third year the Brazil school has been hosting the races for its students, said principal Dustin Jorgensen, a huge Indy 500 fan.

Cardinal Robert Prevost of Chicago, who spent much of his career in the nation of Peru, became Pope Leo XIV on Thursday. When I talked with Ambassador Joe Donnelly on Tuesday about who might be the next pope following the death of Francis, he was not overtly optimistic about the potential of an American talking the helm.

Asha Backhoff has been dancing since she was a toddler. This year, she’s preparing to graduate from Shortridge High School and will perform one last time with the Metropolitan Youth Ballet of Indiana (MYB) in the classic fairytale, “Cinderella.”“I started out doing dance classes at Indy Parks and I really loved it.
