Heavy police presence at hotel by Savannah airport

Several law enforcement agencies are surrounding a hotel, just outside the Savannah airport, in an apparent SWAT scene. The heavy police presence seems to be fixated on the Comfort Inn on Clyde E Martin Drive, just off Airways Avenue. Our crews on scene report nearly two dozen police vehicles on scene, including K-9s, near the hotel. WJCL 22 News has reached out to the Savannah, Pooler, and airport police departments, alongside Chatham County deputies to learn more.

By Andy Cole & Graham Cawthon Click here for updates on this story BULLOCH COUNTY, Georgia ( WJCL) - Emily Grace Mayo, a 9-year-old girl known for her "joyous smile" and big heart, was found dead alongside her father, James Mayo, in a locked pickup truck at a city park in Brooklet on Tuesday, according to police. Brooklet police responded to a call about a girl stuck inside a locked car and discovered Emily Grace and her father both deceased inside the vehicle.

A WJCL 22 News viewer was able to capture video of a waterspout during severe weather in coastal Bryan County.The video, taken by viewer Caitlyn Casey, shows the Lincoln Creek area towards St. Catherine's Island. The area is just west of Richmond Hill. A waterspout, according to WJCL 22 Chief Meteorologist Jeremy Nelson, is, simply, a tornado over water. Olympia Cafe mourns loss of owner Nick Pappas, true Savannah icon

Olympia Cafe, which prides itself on its authentic Greek cuisine, announced its longtime owner has died. The restaurant took to Facebook Saturday to announce the death of Owner Nick Pappas. "His love, passion, hard work , and humor made him a one of a kind. There are no words right now to express our sorrow," Olympia Cafe said online. Located on River Street, Pappas' Olympia Cafe has been a mainstay in the Hostess City for two decades.

Beaufort County deputies say a woman found unresponsive the surf, was pronounced dead.In a press release, sent Sunday afternoon, the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office says they first responded around 1 a.m. Sunday to Collier Beach Road on Hilton Head Island to reports of a woman in the surf.When they got her back to the shore, deputies found the 50-year-old woman in a wetsuit with a boogie board still attached at her ankle. The publicly unidentified woman was pronounced dead on the beach.
