NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A Norfolk grandmother charged in the death of her 3-month old granddaughter was in court Monday as her case moves forward. Norfolk Juvenile and Domestic Relations Judge Lyn Simmons certified the case against Alvetta Haskins to a grand jury to set a court date. Haskins has been in custody since her arrest Jan. 1, charged with second-degree murder after being accused of killing her granddaughter, Skylar Mccoy, on or about April 22, 2024.

ZUNI, Va. (WAVY) — Along Route 460 in Isle of Wight County, a couple’s farming dreams are unfolding at the speed of an ostrich. Or rather — 21 ostriches. Greg Bullis, and his wife Christine Bullis, own and operate the Bullis Family Farm, which, in addition to the ostriches that race up and down the enclosed pens, has chickens and bees. Now, they want to expand the farm and take advantage of agritourism zoning districts to add a farm brewery. But to have one, they first had to have a working farm.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Newport News Police continue to investigate a double homicide at the Kiln Creek 7-Eleven that happened more than two years ago and are asking for the public’s help. On June 15, 2022, a lone gunman entered the 7-Eleven in Kiln Creek and killed store owner Peter Patel and faithful employee Logan Thomas. They would die together. Even years later, Chris Vanderstouwe, a friend of Peter Patel, did not want to go inside the store.

Norf Circuit Judge Everett Martin dismissed request for special grand jury to determine whether CA Ramin Fatehi is a public nuisance. Judge wrote “Did not set for the existence of one.” He sanctioned a $500 fine against Attny Amina Matheny-Willard who plans appeal. @WAVY_News
