SUFFOLK, Va. — Police in Suffolk are looking for a man they said stabbed a woman in the neck, according to a release. Michael Steven Catron, 44, of Suffolk has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding, abduction and kidnapping, concealing and destroying evidence of a felony, and assault and battery, police said. Police said his charges stem from an incident that took place on Tuesday, August 13.
Driver arrested, charged for striking Portsmouth police officers with vehicle

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Police in Portsmouth said they arrested the driver of a vehicle that struck two officers and fled the scene on April 11, 2024. At around 2 a.m., officers said they were responding to an altercation and disorderly crowd in the 4000 block of Missy Elliot Avenue when they were struck by a vehicle.
Newport News police looking for missing, endangered 60-year-old man

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Police in Newport News said they are looking for a missing and endangered 60-year-old. Wayne Bernard Jennings was last seen on August 13 at around 6:30 a.m., police said. Jennings is described as 6'2" and 200 pounds, he was last seen in the area of Anne Drive. He was last seen wearing a gray t-shirt and tan sweatpants, police said. He is considered endangered due to a medical condition.

HRBT Expansion Project's first gantry extracted and lifted

NORFOLK, Va. — The HRBT Expansion Project celebrated another milestone Tuesday, they're calling it the 'Big Lift.'The first of four gantries was extracted from the receiving pit and lifted out onto the North Island where it will be turned around and placed back into the receiving pit to join Mary on her journey boring the second tunnel. Mary the Tunnel Boring Machine exited the tunnel and made her U-turn back in June. Work on the second tunnel will begin in September of this year.
Deputies shoot, kill man they say opened fire on law enforcement in Bertie County

BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. — Deputies with the Bertie County Sheriff's Office shot and killed a man they say opened fire on law enforcement Tuesday, according to a release. Deputies said they were attempting to serve an involuntary commitment order on Tyshawn Demmoris Barnes, 28, at 122 Sierra Lane in Windsor. Barnes had fired shots at law enforcement before during an incident in 2019, Deputies said.

NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk Public Schools will provide free meals to all children under the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs, according to a release. VB woman arrested after child shoots 7-year-old with unsecured firearm

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va — A Virginia Beach woman has been charged after a gun she owned that was not properly secured was used by a child to shoot a 7-year-old boy, according to police. Sheneka Warren-Boykins, 38, was arrested on Friday, August 9. She is charged with child neglect and allowing access of firearms to children, police say. The child neglect charge is a felony. The shooting happened in the 2400 block of Brush Creek Lane on July 31 around 6:50 p.m., police say.
