Hastings Winkle Club sing carols at old people's home

A choir comprising members of the Hastings Winkle Club sang carols for the residents of Old Hastings House on Christmas Day maintaining a tradition which has lasted for more than 40 years. The ‘Choir’ was led by Mary Lipscombe of the Hastings Philharmonic Choir and members included three former Mayors of Hastings James Bacon, Nigel Sinden and Richard Stevens. Also providing accompaniment on cornet was former Hastings and Rye MP Michael Foster DL.

A tiny museum in half of an upturned fishing boat on a Sussex beach gives an insight into the history of our fishing industry. Half Sovereign Cottage is situated alongside to the Hastings Fishermen’s Museum, at Rock-a-Nore Road, close to the working fishing beach. It is formed from half an old wooden Sussex fishing boat, which has an interesting history.

Hastings RNLI volunteer Kevin Boorman took these pictures of the sea at Rock-a-Nore and off the fishing beach on January 1. He said: “They were taken at high tide at Rock-a-Nore and the harbour arm, with winds gusting to 65mph (Force 11). I’ve seen it rougher, but it still showed the real force of the sea, and looked both powerful and impressive.”1. Hastings area to get millions to help tackle pot hole problem

MP Helena Dollimore has welcomed the government’s announcement of up to £21 million boost to repair roads and fix potholes in Hastings, Rye and the villages. The news, announced today (Friday December 20) comes as a boost for drivers and will see a national increase of nearly 50% on local road maintenance funding from last year and is claimed to be enough to fix the equivalent of over 7 million extra potholes in 2025 to 2026.

Hastings and Rye MP Helena Dollimore has welcomed the second reading of the Water Special Measures Bill which will offer customers better protection when water companies fail to deliver. In the past year alone, Hastings, Rye and the villages have suffered multiple floods, sewage spills, and water outages including an incident in May which left thousands of homes in Hastings without water for up to five days.

Here are the results from Crawley Magistrates Court from August 14 -August 14:Ahmad Humayde, 20, of Buckswood Drive, Crawley, indicated a plea of guilty to making 68 Category A indecent images of children. He also indicated a plea of guilty to possessing extreme pornographic images portraying an act of intercourse with an animal. He indicated guilty pleas to making 17 Category C and to making 22 Category B indecent images of a child. The offences took place at Crawley on October 31m 2023.

Hastings MP Helena Dollimore says more people will be prevented from becoming homeless with the largest-ever investment in homelessness prevention services. Hastings Borough Council will receive £4.8 million and Rother District Council will receive £1 million as part of the wider package announced in the Autumn Budget.
