In every West Virginia county, there is nothing that impacts more residents — young and old — more than teachers and schools. In practically every county, the local school system is typically the largest employer or at least ranked in the top three. If you have school-age children, the impact is even greater. And if they participate in sports, band or other extracurricular activities like school plays, then the impact is even greater yet. Of course, educating our youth is of paramount importance.

WVU basketball fans have had a difficult week. First, our beloved Mountaineers were snubbed by the NCAA Tournament selection committee when WVU was left out of the field of 68 teams in favor of the North Carolina Tar Heels, who had a less-than-stellar season. Fortunately for the Tar Heels, their athletic director, Bubba Cunningham, served as the chair of the selection committee. Ironically, he also receives a substantial bonus of $75,000 if the Tar Heels make the tournament.

Some people look upon holidays like Christmas and Easter as sacred days when we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and His resurrection as the cornerstones of the Christian religion. We hold these holidays, full of religious and family traditions, in the highest regard. Others look at Thanksgiving as a time of giving thanks to God for all that He has blessed us with — the center of which is our family.

I received the following message in a LinkedIn post this week. “The most genuine people will tell the truth, even if it makes them look bad, because they value integrity more than being liked by everyone.”It made me think. It made me look at myself in the mirror and challenge myself: Do I own up to my own shortcomings? Do I take responsibility for my own mistakes? Do I give credit where credit is due? I truly believe that a person is only as good as their word.

You can say that again.

Tell ‘Em Kelvin! “Duke this. Duke that. We went 34-4 and not playing in the Toy Poodle league. We went 34-4 in the Big 12!” https://t.co/OgXdi51u7b

Yes, Big 12 was strong again. WVU got shafted. Should have been the 8th team in. No way the SEC deserved 14.

NCAA tourney win pct. entering Monday’s title game via @TomFornelli Big 12 70% (14-6) SEC 63% (22-13) Big Ten 62% (13-8) ACC 56% (5-4) West Coast 50% (2-2) Big East 44% (4-5) MWC 33% (2-4) MAAC, MVC, Southland & SWAC (all 50%) 1-1 Big 12 clinches best win pct; SEC most wins

Agreed

As a West Virginian it was embarrassing to watch @wvgovernor take that kind of public humiliation from @SecKennedy. He could’ve easily just said “You should’ve seen the last guy” @JimJustice_WV
