Patrick Morrisey on Thursday held a bill signing for a piece of legislation that imposes harsher penalties for drug crimes, particularly those involving the synthetic opioid fentanyl. Senate Bill 196, titled Lauren's Law, retooled much of the state's standing law regarding the possession, manufacture and sale of controlled substances, as well as laws pertaining to the transportation of controlled substances into the state and conspiracy to commit such crimes.

    OAKLAND — Parts of the county were affected by a severe thunderstorm that moved east across the northernmost portion of Maryland on Saturday evening, April 19. Chris Strong, NWS Baltimore/Washington meteorologist, reported that preliminary information shows that extensive damage was caused by a severe west wind that accompanied the storm. All damage noted was blown towards the east.
