Plymouth amateur boxer Ryan Gaffney has won the Western Counties section in the Elite Championships to make it through to the last 16 in England, having sweated off another five kilograms to compete in the U75kg class. Gaffney outboxed Mason Gordon-Brewes of Baker St ABC over three three-minute rounds last weekend to reach the pre-quarter-finals of the Elite Championships next month.

Devon Air Ambulance has a new community landing site in Central Park, which is now available for crews to use in emergencies in the hours of darkness. We bought coffee from a Plymouth cafe to go, and sat down together to unravel what had been a harrowing journey for him, one that he felt he had to take, having seen his own family turfed off their ancestral land in Cyprus in 1974, when he was just a teenager.
