The chief executive of the charity connected to The Guardian newspaper is to step down after six years in the role. The Guardian Foundation, which develops media literacy skills among young people, champions diverse voices and supports at-risk independent media, said Kelly Walls would leave the charity at the end of August to pursue new challenges. The charity said Walls believed it was the right moment for her to step down as it began the development of its next strategic phase.

Medical Aid for Palestinians has appointed Tim Holmes as its next chief executive. Holmes will join in July after 15 years at Oxfam GB, where he has held a variety of roles – most recently, international operations director. He previously worked for Tearfund and the Aga Khan Foundation. Holmes is the long-term successor to Melanie Ward, who led MAP from January 2023 until she was granted leave of absence in May 2024 to campaign to become the Labour MP for Cowdenbeath and Kirkcaldy.

A flag that was stolen from an RNLI station by a pair of 17-year-olds has been returned 56 years later. The charity said it had received the flag, along with a handwritten letter of apology and a £20 donation from one of the two who took it from the Trearddur Bay station on Holy Island, Anglesey, north Wales.

Larger charities should provide more support to other sector organisations, the chief executive of Age UK has suggested. Speaking as part of a panel discussion about charity leadership, organised by the law firm Stone King in London last night, Paul Farmer said generosity was important for sector leaders during these challenging times.

The maternity discrimination charity Pregnant Then Screwed has appointed Rachel Grocott as chief executive. Grocott, who has spent the past three years as chief executive of the period poverty charity Bloody Good Period, succeeds Joeli Brearley, who set up Pregnant Then Screwed in 2015 after experiencing pregnancy discrimination. Brearley stood down as chief executive in February but has continued to support the organisation as an ambassador.
