Halifax has been without an AI wildfire surveillance system since October when the pilot project ended. For residents who were directly impacted by the Tantallon wildfires and for councillors in districts in which these towers were located, this is the first time they're hearing the program is offline. "It's a bit of a dangerous time to maybe not have all things focused on the task at hand," said Richard O'Fegan, Westwood Hills Residents Association president.

For Seana Veinot, having her 88-year-old mother admitted to the QEII hospital in Halifax was stressful enough, but to have her mother's possessions stolen while she was asleep made the experience even worse. "So a vulnerable, late 80s lady being asleep.... It's very disconcerting to know that that could be a target. And that makes you feel like nobody is safe," she said.

One day after an armed robbery prompted a lockdown at Mount Saint Vincent University and a heavy police presence, questions are being raised about whether the response was appropriate. At around 1 p.m. Thursday, Halifax Regional Police, RCMP and EHS responded to second-hand reports of a robbery at the university cafe. Students were told to shelter in place while police arrived on the scene with tactical equipment and drones.

While it wasn't her name on it but the name of her ex-partner, it has raised more questions than answers. "That's the weird part for me; I'm not sure why it would come here and where it came to my address, like is it my address that's compromised?" Rand says. "Is it the account or is it him who's compromised? Like it doesn't match up."She adds that she's not sure what to do.

Avia Raiche-Marsden says her life has been thrown out of sorts since she was injured in the accident over the weekend.
