Cameron Marks, a director of Percy Marks – a jewellery store established in Sydney in 1899 – has resigned. Marks joined the JAA’s board in May 2017 and until his resignation, was the longest continually serving director. A brief stint with the JAA has also ended for Meredith Doig, who joined the board in September 2022. Her appointment was not without controversy. Doig promotes herself as a board governance expert and her JAA profile page listed her as a 'Professional Company Director & Consultant'.

Hosted at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre from Saturday (1 February) until Monday (3 February), the industry embraced the opportunity to gather for the first time since the turning of the calendar. There was a distinct focus on education at this year’s event, with daily presentations on store design and marketing, business management, and legal trading requirements. As is always the case with jewellery fairs, the reception among exhibitors and retailers was mixed.

RR Auction in Boston is offering a GMT-Master ‘Pepsi’ model watch, which Edgar Mitchell, the sixth man to walk on the Moon, owned. The watch is named ‘Pepsi’ from its blue and red bezel. “This incredibly rare watch, part of Mitchell’s personal collection, is one of only two Apollo-flown Rolex watches ever sold at auction,” RR Auction writes.

In late April, Jeweller reported on the unusual case of Craig Miller's ousting from the CEO position of his company, JC Jewels. The Melbourne-based company claims to be Australia’s largest lab-created diamond wholesaler. Miller — who was recently elected president of the Diamond Dealers Club of Australia - was a director and 25 per cent shareholder in JC Jewels when he was suddenly terminated.

Queensland Police have arrested and charged three men after a failed attempt at a robbery at a jewellery store in Westfield Coomera on the Gold Coast on Friday afternoon. The trio allegedly arrived at the shopping centre in a vehicle around 5pm. Two men then attempted to smash a glass cabinet at a jewellery store using a tyre iron. The plot was foiled, however, when two barbers observed the robbery and decided to intervene.

The DDCA is the Australian representative on the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB). In what appears to be a straightforward switch of positions, Craig Miller, the former vice president, has taken over as president, while former president Rami Baron has assumed the vice president's position. New additions to the DDCA board include Anna Cisecki, executive director of Australian Diamond Portfolio, and Nirav Shah, director of Affection Diamonds.

During Germany’s occupation of Poland from 1939 until 1945, prisoner’s valuables – including wedding rings, watches, chains, and earrings – would be confiscated and placed in envelopes with the original owner’s details. The Arolsen Archives, an international centre with information on around 17.5 million people, holds many of these items today. According to reporting by WatchPro, the application includes an NFT chip and smartphone app that stores data about a person, a watch, and a security key. It would act as a computerised method for storing and managing data associated with a user's timepiece. The application was filed with the Organisation Mondiale de la Propriété Intellectuelle in August. “No brand needs a solution to track information about its watches and customers more than Rolex,” writes Rob Corder.
