The family of Irish-based engineer Robert Pether has to wait until next Wednesday before being able to find out exactly what restrictions have been placed on him following his release from an Iraqi jail. The 50-year-old was released on bail on Thursday and is currently in accommodation in Iraq, organised by the Irish, Australian, and Egyptian embassies for himself and his Egyptian work colleague, Khalid Radwan.

A passenger in a pick-up truck has died following a single-vehicle collision in Newbridge, Co Kildare. He died at Naas General Hospital on Thursday night after the incident on Barrettstown Road, which occurred shortly after 8pm. He is the 72nd person to die on Irish roads this year. Gardai said in a statement this morning: “Gardaí and emergency services responded to the collision involving a single vehicle, a pick-up truck, shortly after 8pm.

Bank of Ireland is warning the public about the scam, which involves convincing texts and phone calls. A variation of wording is used in the texts.
