Surprise Chinese naval drills spark midair chaos, escalate tensions with US and allies

(The Daily Signal) – In yet another provocation of U.S. allies, China conducted live-fire naval drills in international waters on Friday without providing adequate notice, causing nearly 50 commercial flights to suddenly alter their courses in midair to avoid the area. Typically, warnings are given 12-24 hours in advance to allow airlines to adjust flight paths—China gave no warning at all. It took 40 minutes after the live-fire drill began for the Australian Department of Defense to be notified.

Before, I could find a bookshop, a garden, a church or any number of places, each offering its own European charm. On Nov. 9, the Florida Board of Governors (BOG) voted in favor of a proposal, introduced by Florida Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz Jr., that would remove Principles of Sociology as part of the state’s general education requirements. Sociology is a vital part of higher education, and this decision will inevitably have detrimental effects on the students and the university.

USF’s Black enrollment has decreased by 0.9% since 2020. Many students are questioning USF’s desire to address this decline. “The decrease in Black student enrollment is unfortunate because it gives people of other groups an advantage,” Feyi Ogbeibu, senior accounting major, said in an Oct. 25 article by The Oracle.

The depersonalization of the shopping experience started with self checkouts, which make up 40% of checkout options. A new advancement has made its way into the spotlight – unstaffed, AI-run stores. USF’s new AI-powered convenience store, 813 Quick Eats, opened over Labor Day weekend. Some students have complained that the shopping experience wasn’t as smooth as expected. This new store sets a dangerous precedent for the university.
