Every year, the True/False Film Fest turns downtown Columbia, Missouri, into a destination for documentary film fans from across the globe. In this crucible for the latest exciting nonfiction films, themes and topics begin to bubble to the surface as audiences make their way through the festival program. What jumped out as a uniting theme among this year’s slate was the idea of looking to the past to make sense of our present situation, whether environmentally, politically, or culturally.
