DiscussionThis research project aimed to measure changes in macronutrient composition during an extended lactation period. Besides fundamental scientific interest, our findings could help human milk bank policymakers decide on the eligibility of potential donors throughout prolonged lactation. The study demonstrates that human milk protein levels follow a U-shaped path, dipping between 8 and 18 months after birth.
