When I was a kid, I entertained many potential careers for my future self: doctor, diplomat, economist, lawyer. With the exception of lawyer, which was immediately discarded as a contender once I came to my senses and realised that I had no interest in the law, all the other occupations underwent periods of serious consideration. Now that I am in my 20s however, I can safely say that I am not on track to become a doctor, a diplomat or an economist.

Here’s to what you mean to me and to everything you have taught me, both on and off the court. I grew up to the sound of sport in the background. As a child, my father had a habit of watching one of either three sports on TV: soccer, badminton, or tennis. The walls of the apartment where I spent my early childhood used to echo with the background noise of sports commentary, rowdy soccer fans, and the crisp crack upon the impact between racquet and ball.

What springs to mind when you think of Singapore? Garden City, Crazy Rich Asians, Marina Bay Sands and Sentosa Island are the images that most of us probably associate with this small red dot on the map. And as for adjectives, I’m sure that efficient, fast-paced and uber clean are top of the list.

AbstractThe rising pancreatic cancer incidence due to obesity and type 2 diabetes is closely tied to hyperinsulinemia, an independent cancer risk factor. Previous studies demonstrated reducing insulin production suppressed pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PanIN) pre-cancerous lesions in Kras-mutant mice. However, the pathophysiological and molecular mechanisms remained unknown and in particular it was unclear whether hyperinsulinemia affected PanIN precursor cells directly or indirectly.
