Due to the high cost of eggs, families and local bakeries are preparing for an expensive Easter. According to economic experts, the cost of eggs continues to remain high as a result of the bird flu. According to Loyola New Orleans Economics professor Leo Krasnozhon, the average price of a dozen eggs is about $6. Krasnozhon said eggs sold in New Orleans are a dollar cheaper than the national average. Chef Carla Briggs is the owner of Viola's Heritage Bakery.

New Orleans firefighters who responded to the Bourbon Street terror attack were honored with a ceremony Tuesday.The Orleans and Jefferson Parish Medical Society presented each of the 57 firefighters with a certificate of appreciation for their heroic acts. On Jan. 1, a driver plowed a pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon, killing at least 14 and injuring dozens of others.

The Orleans Parish Sheriff is urging voters to renew a current tax mileage on the May 3 ballot.Sheriff Huston says the money from the millage will go toward critical programs, maintenance and staffing.The law enforcement district millage is up for renewal after 10 years. If renewed the tax will extend for another decade. According to Hutson, the millage will secure $13.1 million in annual funding and not increase taxes.
