ST. GEORGE — Interim Mayor Dustin Yates officially announced Tuesday he will run in the first-ever election for mayor of St. George in March. Yates led the newly-formed city’s transitional government since he was appointed by Governor Jeff Landry in May 2024. The Louisiana Supreme Court ruled in April to incorporate the city of St. George. The special election on March 29 will allow St. George voters the first opportunity to vote for city leaders.

A 4-year-old was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Merrill Road in Jacksonville late Saturday night. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says about 11:00pm near the Arlington area, a light colored sedan changed lanes and ran into an SUV, forcing the SUV off of Merrill Road near Rogero Road according to witnesses. The SUV crashed into a telephone pole. The light-colored sedan fled the scene and has not reported the crash to JSO. A 4-year-old passenger in the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced 36-year-old Luis Roces was arrested and charged with murder after a fight and fatal shooting at a San Marco home early Sunday morning. On Sunday, January 21, 2024 at around 1:30 a.m., the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says officers responded to a 911 call in reference to a reported shooting in the 1800 block of River Road.

One of the girls still needs a name. The next crewed launch from Florida’s Space Coast is set for Wednesday. The private Axiom Mission 3 is set to launch to the International Space Station January 17th. “Ax-3″ will be the first all-European commercial astronaut mission to the ISS. The crew will conduct more than 30 experiments during their 14-days aboard the space station. The mission is also bringing Axiom Space closer to the creation of its own commercial space station. It will be known as Axiom Station.
