The Cheshire and Warrington region was confirmed as being part of the Government’s devolution priority programme in February. It is one of six areas to be given fast-tracked devolution. The news was welcomed by the leaders of the region’s three councils – Warrington Borough Council (WBC), Cheshire West and Chester Council, and Cheshire East Council.

Cllr Anthony Burns was asked about town centre demolition work and the proposed regeneration of the area during an interview on BBC Radio Merseyside’s The Hot Seat on Wednesday. The Labour politician says it is now at a “crucial point”.

Warrington Borough Council’s application for Fox Covert Cemetery in Appleton, on Red Lane, came before the development management committee last Thursday. As recommended, it was approved subject to conditions. According to a report to the committee, the application site is an agricultural field which is located to the east of Fox Covert Cemetery and to the west of the existing graveyard associated with Hill Cliffe Baptist Church. It also said the application site is located in the green belt.
