    The Victorian Farmers Federation says phasing out caged eggs will affect people during a cost of living crisis. Supermarket chains Woolworths, Coles and Aldi say they will phase out caged eggs this year. Standards are yet to be created for the caged egg phase out. Victoria's peak farming body wants the state and federal governments to pause the looming phase out of conventional caged eggs.

    The rugged mountain ranges of the Grampians/Gariwerd National Park loom large over Shane Wells's western Victorian property. From the foot of his dam, Mr Wells can normally watch the sunrise just beyond the mountain ranges. But checking the pumps on his farm dam in the early morning light this weekend, Mr Wells noticed a change. "Usually you can see all the mountains with the sun coming up," Mr Wells said.

    A resprayed Holden Commodore has been seized as police continue to hunt for the driver who critically injured a child in a hit-and-run on the New South Wales–Victorian border. It is understood the car was spotted being towed on a car trailer across the border from Albury into Wodonga on Saturday before being taken to a business. The car is believed to have been fitted with fake Victorian registration plates and had damage to the front passenger side.

    A man has fronted court on a fresh charge of negligent manslaughter over the death of 49-year-old Emma Bates in northern Victoria. John Torney, 40, appeared via video link in Shepparton Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, after being charged by detectives from the Cobram Crime Investigation Unit last Friday. Ms Bates was found dead after emergency services were called to her home in Campbell Road at Cobram in April this year.
