SENECA, Kan. (KSNT) – An Oklahoma man is now in custody after a Kansas priest was fatally shot Thursday afternoon. According to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, a 911 caller reported shots being fired at the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church rectory at 411 Pioneer St., in Seneca, at 2:50 p.m. Both the Nemaha County Sheriff’s Office and the Seneca Police Department responded to the scene.

TOPEKA (KSNT) – A leader with the Archdiocese of Kansas City confirms a Kansas priest has been killed. According to a social media post by Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann, Fr. Arul Carasala of Seneca was shot and killed Thursday. He had served the Archdiocese for over 20 years, including as dean of the Nemaha-Marshall region. Very few details about the shooting have been released at this time. 27 News has reached out to the Nemaha County Sheriff’s Office but they declined to comment.
