A grassroots leader with an RSS–ABVP background, she began her political journey while she was a B.Com student at Delhi University’s Daulat Ram College. She joined the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in 1992. She was announced as the BJP pick after 48 MLAs from the party unanimously elected her as the leader of Delhi BJP legislature party.

Fourteen students of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) were on Thursday detained by the police for vandalising “public property” and “disturbing law and order”, an officer said. The detainees were among the students protesting against the university administration since Monday over show-cause notices to four students for organising a demonstration on December 15, 2024, the fifth anniversary of the Jamia violence.

Karnail Singh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nominee from north Delhi’s Shakur Basti seat with ₹259 crore assets, is the richest of the 699 candidates fighting the February 5 Assembly election, according to a report released on Monday by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). The report also stated that five candidates have assets of over ₹100 crore, and among the 10 wealthiest candidates, most belong to the BJP (5), followed by the Aam Aadmi Party (3) and the Congress (2).

Stating that the ruling Aam Aadmi Party has “failed to uplift transgender community”, Rajan Singh, 27, who identifies herself as a transwoman, on Wednesday filed her nomination papers from the Kalkaji, the home constituency Chief Minister Atishi for the Delhi Assembly poll. Ms. Singh said in the past 10 years, “no work has been done” for the transgender community in Delhi, adding that she hopes to bring a change.

Slum dwellers’ rehabilitation has become one of the focal points of the Delhi Assembly poll. The BJP, in Opposition, is taking the credit for constructing Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) flats in Ashok Vihar and Kalkaji under the Centre’s In-Situ Slum Redevelopment project (ISSR). On the other hand, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is banking on amenities like drinking water, healthcare, sanitation, and education. According to the 2011 census, Delhi’s slum population was 17,85,390.
