    MAPLEWOOD, NJ - Overall, crime in Maplewood was down in January and February compared to that time last year, according to data presented at township’s Public Safety Committee meeting on April 9.  According to the Maplewood Uniform Crime Report Statistics for January and February, presented by Albert Sally, Maplewood chief of police, total crime incidents rose from 28 in January and February 2023 to 45 during the same months in 2024, then dropped to 33 in early 2025, a 27% reduction.

    MAPLEWOOD, N.J. — Karissa Handler, a counselor at Columbia High School, was recognized as the New Jersey School Counselor Association’s Counselor of the County for Essex County at an award ceremony on March 20. According to a press release from the School District of South Orange and Maplewood, the NJSCA’s annual Counselor of the County awards are intended to celebrate counselors who serve as advocates and lifelines for students throughout the state.

    MAPLEWOOD, NJ — A representative from New Jersey American Water said that Maplewood is a “top priority town” in the company’s statewide lead service line replacement program, which will begin later this month.  NJAW’s lead service line replacement program is the byproduct of 2021 legislation that requires utility companies to replace utility-owned and customer-owned lead and galvanized service lines by 2031.
