Softball: Columbia Advances Past Montclair, 5-1, in ECT

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – The Columbia softball team advanced in the quarterfinal round of the Essex County Tournament with a 5-1 victory over Montclair on Saturday. Claire Shupe pitched a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts and three walks in seven innings. The only run against her was unearned. Abby Coulter, Charlotte Klepesch and Maya Bernstein each had one hit and one run batted in for the Cougars. Jamie Tarrow went 3-for-3 and Ava Clevenger was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ – Columbia scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, then played to a 4-4 tie with St. Peter's Prep in baseball on Thursday. With two outs and Columbia trailing, 4-2, Luke Davenport hit a 1-2 pitch for a two-run single for the Cougars to tie it, 4-4. Davenport was 2-for-3 in the game. Isaac Buchalter was 2-for-4 and Zach Barron was 2-for-3 for Columbia (9-7-1).

VERONA, NJ – Verona advanced in overtime with an 11-10 girls lacrosse victory over Columbia in the quarterfinals of the Essex County Tournament on Tuesday. Margaret McManus led the scoring for Columbia (5-7) with four goals. Anabel MacGuire had two goals and two assists and Maddie McKinstrie had two goals and one assist for the Cougars. Kira Abel finished with a goal and two assists and Evie Campbell had one goal and one assist for Columbia.
