LIVINGSTON, NJ – Five different players collected two hits apiece to back the strong pitching of Claire Shupe as Columbia rolled to an 11-0 softball victory over Livingston on Tuesday. Shupe spun a three-hitter, struck out 11 and walked none. Abby Coulter and Scarlett Levenson each had two hits and knocked in two runs for Columbia (5-0). Maya Bernstein and Charlotte Klepesch had two hits and two runs scored and each drove in one run. Jamie Tarrow also had two hits, one RBI and one run scored.

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – Adam Carlucci and Oliver Ellis combined on a no-hitter as the Columbia baseball team defeated Becton Regional, 7-2, on Tuesday. Carlucci pitched 5 ⅓ innings, struck out eight and walked five. Becton (3-3) scored two runs against him, but both were unearned. Ellis went 1 ⅔ perfect innings and struck out two batters. Benji Josefsberg went 2-for-3 with three runs batted in for the Cougars (5-1).

New Jersey American Water launched our Lead Service Line Replacement Program in Maplewood with support from our qualified contractor, Montana Construction, beginning this week. The first part of this program is to inspect and identify the material of our customers' water service lines. The service line is the pipe that connects your home to the water main in the street. A portion of the service line to your residence is owned by New Jersey American Water, while the homeowner owns the other portion.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ - Overall, crime in Maplewood was down in January and February compared to that time last year, according to data presented at township’s Public Safety Committee meeting on April 9. According to the Maplewood Uniform Crime Report Statistics for January and February, presented by Albert Sally, Maplewood chief of police, total crime incidents rose from 28 in January and February 2023 to 45 during the same months in 2024, then dropped to 33 in early 2025, a 27% reduction.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ – The afternoon of Sunday, April 6 was both informative and entertaining at the Durand-Hedden House Gardens in Maplewood. Dendrochonologist Michael Cuba started things off with a talk on The Stories in Wood, an analysis of the house’s oldest timber. Dendrochronology, or tree-ring dating, is a scientific method that uses the annual growth rings in trees for dating and interpreting historic structures. The Durand-Hedden House was determined to date to 1794 or later.
